Initial placement within the salary range is based on an individual's relevant knowledge, skills, and experience. WE LOVE OUR WORK.

  • Repair shoes in Paddock including removing and tacking shoes and trimming feet to assure securing the shoe as best as possible
  • Must be in paddock 30 minutes before first race and stay until last race goes off.
  • Must supply own blacksmith tools.
  • Must be available on short notice to make repairs in an expedited manner.
  • Must enforce the Ohio Racing Commission Rules of Racing.
  • Prior to races checks each horse for the proper United States Trotting Association freeze brand or lip tattoo in order to determine proper identification.
  • Responsible for checking other markings, to reaffirm correct horse is being identified.
  • Must be available to work for any training, schooling, racing or qualifying hours.
  • Must maintain equipment records for all horses racing at the track.
  • Must check equipment of all horses on a nightly basis and notify the judges of any changes.

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Read, write legibly, understand and speak English
  • Must be a licensed Farrier.
  • Must know how to read a Condition Sheet
  • Must be licensed with Ohio Racing Commission
  • Excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy
  • Must be able to respond to visual and oral cues
  • Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
  • Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations including ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 60 lbs., and the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces
  • Must have experience working around horses
