WE LOVE OUR WORK.

  • Responsible supervising the Racing Department and secure an ample supply of race horses for the racing meet by performing the following duties. Perform duties as described in the Ohio Rules of Racing
  • Write condition sheets for all racing programs.
  • Must approve the population of horses while reviewing the performance of the horsemen. Oversee Racing Department personnel, including the Assistant Race Secretary, Clerk of Course, Starter, Paddock Judge, Horse ID, Colors person, programs and other personnel assigned by the VP of Racing Operations.,
  • Respond to all problems, in the Racing areas, promptly and thoroughly as so not to negatively affect the other interrelated areas within the department.
  • Schedule all races.
  • Be aware of the shifts in the horse supply to maximize the output of horses in each category and class level.
  • Be aware of all strategies being used at other tracks in the region in order to be competitive in obtaining horses stabled away from the track.
  • Verify eligibility of horses for racing programs.
  • Oversee the drawing of races and production of overnight and related program proofs for various offices.
  • Oversee scratches and changes in order to produce a daily racing program.
  • Supervise and assist in training of officials and office staff, create work schedule for racing staff.
  • Receive and maintain safe the registration certificates of all horses competing in claiming races at the track and to return same to the owner of a horse or their representative upon their departure from the grounds.
  • Be familiar with the ages, class, and competitive ability of all horses racing at the track.
  • Write conditions and schedule the daily racing programs presented at the track
  • Examine nominations and declarations in early closing and stake events; verify the eligibility of all declarations and nominations, and compile a list of eligible horses for publications
  • Serve as a liaison between the OHHA and Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway staff.
  • Other duties as requested from time to time relating to the promotion and dissemination of information on racing at the track.

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university preferred
  • Five years of progressive experience in the racing industry
  • Must be licensed by Ohio Racing Commission
  • Must be licensed by United States Trotting Association
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word)
  • Ability to understand and analyze Budget & P&L Statements
  • Proven managerial and critical thinking skills required
  • Must possess excellent employee relations skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills, must be fluent and literate in English
  • Ability to respond calmly and make rational decisions when required
  • Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations including ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 25 lbs., and the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces
