POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of HR serves as a key member of the property executive team, contributing to business strategy, operational planning, and enterprise initiatives. This strategic business leader is responsible for shaping the team member experience from attraction through exit. As a trusted advisor to the GM and leadership team, the VP HR drives talent strategies that attract, engage, develop, and retain top talent, build leadership pipelines, and strengthen culture. Through influence, partnership, and talent expertise, the Director of HR ensures the property has the talent and capabilities needed to deliver outstanding business results.

• Responsible for strategic human resource planning to provide the Company with the best talent available and to position the Company as the employer of choice by being aware of policies, practices, and trends within the gaming and racing industries
• Responsible for hiring of all team members for the successful opening of the casino, training, employee relations, employee engagement, succession planning, compensation planning, retention strategies, benefits and HR administration
• Participate in the development of the property's strategic logic to include plans and programs as a strategic partner, but particularly from the perspective of the impact on people
• Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items impact the attraction, motivation, development and retention of the people resources of the property
• Develop staffing strategies and implementation plans and programs to identify talent within and outside the property for positions of responsibility. Identify appropriate and effective external sources for candidates for all levels within the Company
• Develop programs to allow the property to embrace applicants and employees of all ethnicity/backgrounds and to permit the full development and performance of all employees
• Establish credibility throughout the property with management and the employees to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues
• Develop appropriate programs and policies for effective management of the people resources of the property. Included in this area, but not limited to the following: engagement, performance, career development, employee relations, affirmative action, sexual harassment, employee complaints, external education
• Maintain knowledge of HR policies, programs, laws and issues
• Provide technical advice and knowledge to others within the human resources discipline
• Manage the budget and other financial measures of the Human Resources Department
• Continue improving the programs, policies, practices and processes associated with meeting the strategic objectives and operational people issues of the organization
• Evaluate the human resource department structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group, as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth, with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) for individuals
• Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested by the property General Manager
• Demonstrates abilities to meet performance expectations with Communications, Initiative/Problem Solving, Guest Service/Interpersonal Relations, Work Habits and Conduct, and Responsible Gaming/Business Ethics

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred
• Ten years of progressive experience in the human resources, with at least three years experience at a senior/executive level, including recruitment, training, benefit administration, compensation, and employee/labor relations
• Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word)
• Must have prior experience in high volume recruiting, experience developing and leading HR teams with a business partner model and prior experience with property/company openings
• Must have experience working in a union environment and taken part in negotiations with the union
• Strong analytical skills, accounting and good understanding human resources
• Ability to research and gather data from internet and other sources, compile information, and prepare reports
• Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials
• Extensive knowledge of principles, theories, and practice of human resources management
• Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations including ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 25 lbs., and the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces

Candidates with the following skills or experience are preferred but not required:

• PHR or SPHR professional designation preferred
• Master’s degree in human resources, business or related field from an accredited four-year college or university
• Prior experience in the gaming industry experience
