WE LOVE OUR WORK.

The Assistant Riverboat Superintendent supports the Riverboat Superintendent in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of the property’s marine vessel and associated systems. The position assists with life safety, emergency preparedness, regulatory compliance, preventive maintenance, operational readiness, and coordination of assigned marine work.

The Assistant Superintendent provides day-to-day technical and operational support, helps maintain vessel systems and required documentation, supports Facilities/Engineering operations and projects, and may act on behalf of the Riverboat Superintendent when assigned.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Life Safety & Emergency Preparedness

  • Assist with oversight of vessel life-safety systems, emergency procedures, fire protection, evacuation preparedness, and emergency response readiness.
  • Help ensure required inspections, testing, drills, and documentation are completed and maintained.
  • Assist with employee training and preparedness for vessel emergencies.
  • Coordinate and document assigned emergency drills, including fire and evacuation drills.
  • Maintain familiarity with vessel emergency equipment, alarms, associated systems, and established response procedures.
  • Identify life-safety deficiencies, promptly notify the Riverboat Superintendent, and assist with corrective action.
  • Help maintain systems in a condition necessary to successfully demonstrate required testing during applicable inspections.

Marine & Vessel Operations

  • Assist with the safe and reliable operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of vessel systems and equipment.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance and inspection programs and track assigned work through completion.
  • Maintain required operating, maintenance, inspection, and testing logs.
  • Monitor vessel conditions and promptly report maintenance, safety, compliance, and operational concerns.
  • Maintain working knowledge of vessel mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, HVAC, plumbing, structural, and related systems.
  • Read and interpret vessel schematics, blueprints, construction drawings, technical documentation, and operating procedures.
  • Support regulatory inspections and assist with resolving identified deficiencies.

Facilities & Engineering Support

  • Support the Facilities/Engineering team with property maintenance, repairs, capital improvements, and operational projects.
  • Assist with building and facility maintenance involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, structural components, equipment, and related systems.
  • Support space reconfigurations, small construction projects, equipment replacements, and other facility initiatives.
  • Provide hands-on technical assistance when marine and facilities systems overlap.
  • Assist with contractor and vendor coordination and report concerns regarding completion, quality, safety, or property expectations.
  • Assist with cross-training designated Facilities personnel on vessel systems and emergency requirements.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Perform assigned work in accordance with applicable gaming, OSHA, state, local, federal, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain inspection, testing, maintenance, and compliance documentation in an organized and audit-ready manner.
  • Assist the Riverboat Superintendent and property leadership during regulatory or operational inspections.
  • Promptly communicate compliance concerns and help track corrective actions through completion.

Team Leadership & Work Coordination

  • Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, and technical guidance to assigned marine personnel as delegated by the Riverboat Superintendent.
  • Assist with assigning daily work and setting priorities based on life safety, regulatory requirements, operational risk, preventive maintenance, and property needs.
  • Monitor assigned work quality and completion through observation, inspections, and maintenance documentation.
  • Communicate employee performance or conduct concerns to the Riverboat Superintendent and support follow-up consistent with company policy.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, safe work practices, and effective communication.
  • Coordinate assigned work to minimize disruption to guests and property operations.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Assist with monitoring operating expenses and identifying opportunities to improve reliability, productivity, efficiency, and operating cost.
  • Assist with vendor and contractor scope development, scheduling, and service coordination.
  • Recommend process, equipment, or maintenance improvements that improve safety, system reliability, and operating efficiency.
  • Prepare or maintain assigned reports, records, logs, purchase information, and project documentation.
  • Perform other duties and projects assigned by the Riverboat Superintendent or Director of Facilities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated marine engineering, vessel maintenance, or comparable technical maintenance experience.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, HVAC, plumbing, and related vessel/facility systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, construction drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of life-safety systems, emergency response procedures, fire protection, evacuation procedures, system testing, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to provide day-to-day work direction and technical guidance when assigned.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a 24/7 hospitality and gaming environment.
  • Strong attention to inspection, testing, maintenance, and compliance documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required gaming licensing/work authorization.
  • Ability to work varying shifts and schedules when operational or emergency conditions require.

Education & Experience

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Associate degree in Facilities Management, Marine Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; and
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in marine, facilities, engineering, or multifunctional maintenance operations, including experience coordinating work or providing technical guidance;

OR

  • An equivalent combination of relevant education, technical training, licensing, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the responsibilities of the position.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Position operates in an active casino/hospitality, facilities, and marine environment.
  • Work may involve varying levels of noise, temperature, humidity, vibration, crowds, and other environmental conditions.
  • Must be available to respond to operational, maintenance, and life-safety needs as required.
  • Must comply with company safety, licensing, testing, and drug-free workplace requirements applicable to the position.
