Part-Time | 180-Hour Externship

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk is proud to partner with Warren Tech to provide hands-on learning opportunities for students completing their Culinary Arts or Food & Beverage program requirements. This 180-hour externship offers real-world experience in a fast-paced hospitality environment, allowing students to develop industry skills while working alongside experienced culinary and restaurant professionals.

What You'll Learn & Experience

Externs will gain exposure to a variety of kitchen and food service operations, including:

Food preparation following standardized recipes and menu specifications
Basic knife skills and proper food handling techniques
Preparation of soups, sauces, stocks, and other menu items
Safe operation of commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, grills, fryers, mixers, slicers, steamers, and kettles
Food presentation and plating standards
Kitchen organization, cleanliness, and sanitation procedures
Inventory management, stocking, and workstation setup
Health department regulations, food safety, and sanitation best practices
Working multiple culinary stations, including sauté, grill, pantry, appetizer, broiler, and pasta stations
Teamwork and communication within a professional kitchen environment
Time management and prioritization in a high-volume operation

Current enrollment in a Warren Tech Culinary Arts or Food & Beverage program
Excellent guest service and interpersonal skills
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Basic knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and kitchen safety practices preferred
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Eagerness to learn and receive coaching from culinary leaders
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions
Ability to work safely around hot, cold, and wet conditions
Ability to lift, move, push, or carry materials and equipment as needed
Ability to safely use knives and other kitchen tools requiring fine motor skills
